hosta pic of the day—Lancifolia

2011.05.04

The FIRST hosta . . . .

  1. It’s the first hosta pic this year.
  2. When I bought this house almost 5 years ago, there were four (4) hosta plants on the property, all of the same variety—Lancifolia. This pic is of one of those plants. I’ve moved three of the original four to other locations, two to other beds, one to my mother’s house. It’s a very common landscaping cultivar, a nice plant but nothing fancy.
  3. “‘Lancifolia’ was the first hosta introduced to Western botany. One was acquired by Kaempfer in 1692. Von Siebold sent the first live ‘Lancifolia’ plants to Holland in 1829. It’s origin is unknown, and it is thought to be sieboldii in nature.” http://www.hostalibrary.org/l/lancifolia.html
